Concepts against street litter

For Arnhem (city)

Market centered design

in collaboration with Manon Plette and Robin van Dorrestein

The Assignment
The 9th main assignment I received was a project in a group of 11 to work for either Arnhem, HAN or Tulper to design different waste related projects.
Together with Manon Plette and Robin van Dorrestein we choose to work on the project for Arnhem to tackle the street litter.
Ideas
The idea phase was focused on creating a wide spectrum amount of possible solutions ranging from products to services.
Concepts
We chose 2 concepts to work out and test.

The first was an idea of mine to use road tiles to direct and attract attention to passers-by and show them the way to a thrash cans.
This helps people think about preventing litter and motivate to properly throw away their garbage when there is not a thrash can in eyesight.

The second idea we chose was an idea of Manon Plette to create an eyecatching wall of waste that draws the attention of passers-by and makes them think about street litter and sorting waste.
This was made into a Solidworks and photoshop renders and a 1:10 scale model

Our idea was chosen out of the many projects made by students

The wall of waste was chosen to be redesigned to be used for the HAN (Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen) and on the Walk of waste (a project in Nijmegen at the river quay where artists will create artworks as thrash cans). So during my next project we will continue with this assignment with some adjustments to produce our product.

Reflection
This was an interesting project as we were very free in what we choose to design. We had a great amount of contact with the clients to design for them the product they want and I am very happy that we may continue with this project during the next quarter so that we can produce the concepts we have made.
